The Head Start Connects: A Study of Family Support Services study is the final phase of the Head Start (HS) Connects Study. The study will collect data through web-based surveys of Head Start program directors, Head Start family and community partnerships managers/coordinators, and Head Start family support services staff members. In this phase, data collection is expected to take place over a 10-month period in the program year of 2022-2023.
Through the start of data collection, the team has identified some needed minor updates to the consent form and consent processes related to the director survey.
1. In some cases, programs/school districts have restrictions on whether staff can receive honoraria, so we would like to add language to address this potential.
2. While fielding the director survey, the research team found that several respondents who requested they receive the survey via phone said they no longer had time to do the survey while the field interviewer was reading the consent form language. It would be helpful to share the consent form via email prior to the phone call and then read a consent script to summarize the consent form information at the start of the phone call.
Additionally, since approval of the current information collection materials, the study team identified minor edits to three data collection instruments to be fielded in Winter/Spring 2023 (Instrument 2: Survey of Family and Community Partnerships Managers; Instrument 3: Survey of Family Support Services Staff Members; Instrument 4: Daily Snapshot Survey of Head Start Family Support Services Staff Members).
