Abstract: The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) seeks Office of Management and Budget (OMB) clearance to implement the 2022 Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA). The 2022 census builds upon the previous four iterations of the CLETA data collections in 2018, 2013, 2006, and 2002. The proposed information collection includes all state and local law enforcement training academies offering basic recruit training programs during calendar year 2022 in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. BJS plans to field the 2022 CLETA from March through October 2023.

Short Statement: The CLETA was last administered in 2018 with a total estimated burden of 1,995 hours. The total estimated time burden of the 2022 CLETA has decreased 420 hours to an estimated 1,575 hours. The decrease in burden is due to an adjustment to the estimate of the number of academies from 950 to 750, decreasing the burden by 400 hours. The adjustment to the estimate of the number of academies also decreases the number of academies selected for data quality follow up from 570 to 450, removing 20 more hours from the total burden estimate.
