The Formaldehyde Standard and its collections of information are designed to provide protection for workers from the adverse health effects associated with occupational exposure to formaldehyde. The Standard requires employers to monitor worker exposure and provide notification to workers of their exposure. Employers are required to make available medical surveillance to workers.

OSHA is requesting an adjustment increase in the burden hours under this data collection from 240,924 to 263,172 hours, for a total increase of 22,878 hours. There was a net increase in the number of establishments from 86,320 to 86,575. The costs to conduct a medical examination increased from $246 to $259.12 and for contract industrial hygiene services to conduct exposure-monitoring sampling increased from $50.25 to $55.99. Total capital costs increased, from $46,843,874 to $54,153,624 an increase of $7,309,750. The increase is due to the estimated increase in the number of covered workers undergoing exposure monitoring and medical exams.
