Approval information is used to approve/disapprove curriculum, facility and faculty for merchant mariner training school courses and ensure approved courses meet statutory requirements. Recordkeeping requirements allow the Coast Guard to monitor schools with approved courses. The respondents are the Merchant Mariner Training Schools. The statutory authority is 46 U.S.C. 2103, 2104 and 7315 for this collection. This authority is delegated to the Coast Guard through the Department of Homeland Security Delegation No. 0170.1, Revision No. 01.2. (II)(92).
