NOAAâs National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) is proposing a non-substantive change to information collection request 0648-0744. These changes are based on results from the recently completed pre-test of the information collection and are summarized below.
Question 9 asks respondents to select the fuel sources they would prefer to produce electricity. We propose reformatting this from âselect all that applyâ to âselect yes or noâ for each item to improve data quality. Further, we propose revising two items to improve clarity to respondents: âHydro (dams)â to âHydropower (dams)â and âBiomass (wood/wood waste)â to âBiomass (organic plant and animal materials).â Finally, we propose removing the response options âOtherâ and âNo preferenceâ and replacing them with âMarine hydropower (wave, tidal, current)â and âGeothermal.â These items are based on comments received from the pre-test and will improve data quality.
Questions 13 and 14 ask respondents to indicate if they have participated in a suite of activities. We propose simplifying the item âAttend/ed a demonstration sponsored by an advocacy groupâ to âAttend/ed a demonstrationâ to reduce respondent burden.
Question 32 asks respondents to indicate if they or anyone in their household is currently employed in a selection of industries. We propose simplifying âGeneration, transmission, or distribution of renewable electric power (such as wind, solar, or hydroelectric)â to âGeneration, transmission, or distribution of renewable energyâ and âGeneration, transmission, or distribution of non-renewable electric power (such as coal)â to âExtraction, transmission, or distribution of non-renewable energyâ to reduce respondent burden. Additionally, we propose replacing âDistribution of natural gasâ with âPort management or operationsâ to improve data quality.
The proposed change request would not affect the number of entities affected or the time or cost burden associated with the information collection.
