The EPA needs comprehensive and current information on lead and copper occurrence and associated enforcement activities to implement its program oversight and enforcement responsibilities mandated by SDWA. The EPA identified rule changes in the final LCRI that clarify the LCRR requirements and ensure and improve protection of public health through reduction in lead exposure. The EPA will use the information collected to support the responsibilities outlined in SDWA. The EPA will be able to strengthen rule implementation in the areas of monitoring, customer awareness, CCT, and service line replacement. The final LCRI does not alter the current MCLGs or treatment technique approach to controlling lead and copper in drinking water.
