Screener B2: Energy Activity Screener Definitions
c. Storage, incl. EV batteries 
This means technologies, equipment, and facilities that store energy or fuel for later use. This includes electricity storage and the storage of fuels., such as pumped-storage hydropower, batteries, including EV batteries, mechanical systems, and thermal storage. It also includes storage of fuels, such as natural gas, crude oil, petroleum fuels, coal, biofuels, nuclear fuel, and other gas or liquid fuels.  
d. Energy efficiency 
This means products or services that reduce energy use in buildings or equipment. Examples include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, heat pumps, water heating, refrigeration, lighting, windows, insulation, air sealing, building controls, energy audits, and building envelope work.  
e. Fuels 
This means extracting, processing, refining, producing, storing, transporting, or distributing fuels. Examples include oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear fuel, biofuels, hydrogen, and other fuels. This also includes fuels transportation, distribution, and storage. It also includes manufacturing components or equipment that are used exclusively or primarily to do the above activities.   
f. Transportation, including motor vehicles 
This means designing, producing, selling, maintaining, or repairing motor vehicles, motor vehicle parts, batteries, charging equipment, hydrogen fueling equipment, or other transportation technologies related to energy use. This also includes manufacturing parts or equipment that are used exclusively or primarily to do the above activities.   
g. Process heat  
This means thermal energy used in industrial or manufacturing processes to make, treat, or change materials. Examples include heat used for melting, curing, drying, refining, cement production, glass production, or similar industrial processes. This also includes manufacturing components or equipment that are used exclusively or primarily to do the above activities.

Examples include growing, harvesting, collecting, or preparing crops, forestry products, animal products, or biomass feedstocks used for [energy / Screener D] activities.

Examples include construction, site preparation, retrofits, installation, commissioning, and project-site supervision. 
 
5. Operations, maintenance, repair, or facility management for [energy / Screener D] systems, facilities, infrastructure 
Examples include operating facilities or systems, maintaining equipment, repairing equipment, providing field service, or managing facility operations. 
 
6. Utility services 
Examples include electric power generation, transmission, or distribution; natural gas distribution; steam supply; or other utility services.
 
7. Wholesale trade, distribution, transportation, storage, or logistics for [energy / Screener D] products, equipment, fuels, materials, or components 
Examples include wholesale sales, warehousing, shipping, pipeline transportation, fuel distribution, equipment distribution, or other logistics services.

Examples include laboratory research, prototype development, technology testing, engineering research, demonstration projects, or related technical services. 

9. Professional, business, administrative, financial, or legal services
Examples include consulting, engineering, architecture, permitting, finance, legal services, insurance, accounting, administrative support, software services, data services, or management services. 

10. Education, training, workforce development, or certification services
Examples include training programs, apprenticeship support, safety training, technical instruction, workforce services, or credentialing.
