OMB 0648-0544

OMB 0648-0544

NMFS requires that owners of vessels with valid commercial reef fish permits in the Gulf of Mexico, including a charter vessel or headboat, and commercial rock shrimp permits in the South Atlantic install a NMFS-approved vessel monitoring system (VMS) on their vessels. In addition, owners and operators must ensure that VMS units remain operational as specified by regulations. VMS units automatically send periodic reports on the position of the vessel. NMFS uses the reports to monitor the vessel's location and activities for enforcement purposes.
