Approved for eighteen months to give OSHA time to promulgate Phase II of the Standards Improvement Project. Approval is consistent with clarifications in DOL memos of 7-24-00 and 8-4-00 including agreement to examine alternatives to requiring worker social security numbers in recording exposure monitoring results. The burden hours for training continue to count as part of the burden of this collection.

The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to acrylonitrile (AN), to provide medical surveillance, to train employees about the hazards of AN, and to establish and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to AN. These records will be used by employers, employees, physicians, and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to AN.
