Terms of Clearance: Approved for one year. OMB notes that DHS failed to respond to the previous terms of clearance. Given the recent establishment of the department, OMB will grant a one year extension to allow for the program (BICE) to address the following terms: Upon resubmission, DHS will assess the time and cost burden associated with this information collection. Further, DHS will document the timeframe for e-signatures on the school certification portion of the SEVIS information collection (I-17). Once the e-signature option is available, DHS will no longer need to collect the original form I-17 from schools during the on-site review. In addition, DHS will report on their use of the risk-based approach to on-site school certifications and assess its utility in making certification determinations.

Abstract: The date is used by the INS when conducting an on-site visit at a school that submitted a certification application in SEVIS after the preliminary enrollment period. The checklist is used to verify that the school in a bonafide school and has adequate fiances to support the operation. Additionally, the checklist will assist in the verification that the DSO meets the requirements and that the school has been and will be in compliance with existing record keeping and reporting requirements.
