TITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION:

Transforming Urban Public Education: Exploring the Potential of City-Based Strategies Conference Survey

[ X] SURVEY [ ] FOCUS GROUP [ ] SOFTWARE USABILITY TESTING

DESCRIPTION OF THIS SPECIFIC COLLECTION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has as one of its many policy goals expanding the number of high-quality public school choice options. Specifically, according to Part B section 5201 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, two of the established purposes of the Charter School Program (CSP) office are: evaluating the effects of such schools, including the effects on students, student academic achievement, staff and parents, and expanding the number of high-quality charter schools available to students across the nation.

While state charter associations have assisted charter schools for years, some locations are seeing the rise of city-based charter support organizations. The conference’s purpose is to bring together groups of diverse stakeholders from approximately 10 cities who are considering developing city-based charter support organizations. It will provide an opportunity for existing organizations to share knowledge and for interested groups to learn and implement “best strategies”. It will also assist in creating a network of existing city-based organizations and those who are in the process of developing such an organization.

Surveys will measure satisfaction with the event, and will be performed in person during the conference. Respondents will be participants in the conference, and will be charter school leaders and representatives from their communities.
