Form EIA-886 collects information annually on the number of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) made available, the distribution of AFVs in use, and alternative transportation fuels (ATFs) consumed. Data are used to track AFV/ATF supply for fleets in the following sectors: federal agencies, state governments, local and municipal governments, electricity fuel providers, propane fuel providers, natural gas fuel providers, and transit agencies. Data from this form are used to satisfy public requests about alternative fuels and to provide Congress with a measure of the extent to which the objectives of the Energy Policy Act of 1992 are being achieved.
EIA estimates a reduction in respondent burden for the following reasons: 1) the number of original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket vehicle converters in the marketplace has decreased 2) EIA estimates that the increased use of automated fleet management information systems by survey frame of suppliers will result in a reduction of time needed to compile and report data to EIA and 3)EIA estimates that the redesign of Form EIA-886, which improves presentation of the questionnaire items and instructions, will result in a reduction in the time required to file data.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
