These information collection requirements are minimal and are used to ensure that motor carriers have adequate documentation of the systematic inspection, repair and maintenance programs required by 49 CFR part 396. This revision is due to a Final Rule entitled,"Inspection, Repair, and Maintenance; Driver-Vehicle Inspection Report." The final rule will rescind the requirement that commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers operating in interstate commerce, except drivers of passenger-carrying CMVs, submit, and motor carriers retain, driver-vehicle inspection reports when the driver has neither found nor been made aware of any vehicle defects or deficiencies.
