Request for Approval under the “Generic Clearance for the Collection of Routine Customer Feedback” (OMB Control Number: 0704-0553)

T ITLE OF INFORMATION COLLECTION: 2018 Interviews with Law Enforcement Stakeholders

PURPOSE: These interviews will be conducted on behalf of the Defense Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC), an agency of the Department of Defense (DoD). Its primary purpose is to derive a list of operationally relevant social and behavioral science research questions relevant to workplace violence prevention that DoD could fund in the future. Unlike most of the current research on workplace violence prevention that is based on known cases of workplace violence (i.e., “known bad” population), this exploratory, non-generalizable, qualitative project collects data from individuals who work in and around law enforcement organizations that have not experienced a violent event in spite of their high operational tempo, high stress, and access to weapons (i.e., “known good” population). The results of this project represent a first step to identify best practices from the “known good” population and transform them into research questions that DoD could execute in the future.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS: For the 2018 Interviews with Law Enforcement Stakeholders, up to 25 law enforcement stakeholders will be interviewed. These stakeholders include 1) current and former state, local, and federal law enforcement officers; 2) current and former law enforcement administrators; and 3) researchers who focus on law enforcement issues.
