Illegal Wildlife Trafficking Survey for U.S. Conservation
Law Enforcers, 2018
Illegal wildlife trafficking – the poaching or other take of protected or managed species (such as
endangered freshwater turtles) and the illegal trade in wildlife and their related parts and products (such
as elephant ivory, rhino horn, and bear parts) – has escalated into an international crisis. Illegal wildlife
trafficking is both a critical conservation concern and a threat to global security with significant effects on
the national interests of the United States and the interests of our partners around the world.
In coordination with the USFWS, TRAFFIC is performing an assessment to gather and synthesize the
latest information and analyses of the scope and scale of illegal wildlife trade in the U.S. and its linkages
to external illegal markets. Your input as a conservation law enforcer is greatly appreciated to help us to
establish priorities for further research, as well as domestic physical and online surveys.
For additional information on this assessment or with questions, please contact: [email protected],
CC: [email protected].
