Fishermen in Federally-managed
fisheries in the western Pacific region are required to provide
certain information about their fishing activities. These data are
needed to determine the condition of the stocks and whether the
current management measures are having the intended effects, to
evaluate the benefits and costs of changes in management measures,
and to monitor and respond to accidental takes of endangered and
threatened species, including seabirds, sea turtles, and marine
mammals.

The estimates of respondents,
responses, and burden hours were updated and recalculated based on
the previous calendar year’s report submissions. Program Changes:
There were no program changes. Adjustments: Estimated responses
increased by 14,620 to 25,479 and burden hours increased by 10,219
to 13,731 primarily due to a long overdue adjustment of the
longline logbook submissions and pre-trip notification counts. The
logbook hours increased by 10,500 and the pre-trip notification
hours decreased by 281 (see comparison in first two rows of Table 1
– responses and hours changed for only these two items, from the
2015 data.)
