The information collection
requirements are needed to implement the marine engineering
regulations in 46 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 50
through 64 (Subchapter F). These regulations contain the primary
standards for marine engineering system installations on certain
Coast Guard certificated vessels. Subchapter F provides the
specifications, standards, and requirements for strength and
adequacy of design, construction, installation, and materials for
machinery, boilers, pressure vessels, safety valves, and piping
systems. The collection of information is also needed to
demonstrate implementation of certain requirements of the
International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. The U.S. is
a signatory to this convention. The statutory authority is 46 U.S.
Code 3306 and 3703.
