The Census Bureau plans to conduct a
Dress Rehearsal for the AIES for survey year 2022 and afterward
will conduct the AIES on an annual basis, beginning in survey year
2023. The AIES is a new survey designed to integrate and replace
seven existing annual business surveys into one survey. The AIES
will provide the only comprehensive national and subnational data
on business revenues, expenses, and assets on an annual basis. The
AIES is designed to combine Census Bureau collections to reduce
respondent burden, increase data quality, and allow the Census
Bureau to operate more efficiently to reduce costs.
The 2024 AIES burden will
reduce from 1,336,892 hours to 784,950 hours. The change in burden
is due to reductions in content and the number of companies
mailed
