Abstract: The purpose of the information collected under 49 CFR Part 225 is to provide the Federal Railroad Administration with accurate information concerning the hazards and risks that exist on the Nation's railroads. FRA needs this information to effectively carry out its regulatory responsibilities under 49 U.S.C. chapters 201-213. FRA also uses this information for determining comparative trends of railroad safety and to develop hazard elimination and risk reduction programs that focus on preventing railroad injuries and accidents. Any State may require railroads to submit to it copies of accident/incident and injury/illness reports filed with FRA under this part, for accidents/incidents and injuries/illnesses which occur in that State. This collection of information is mandatory, collected as needed and involves both reporting and recordkeeping requirements. Additionally, the information collected enables FRA to promote and enhance railroad safety.

Short Statement: With this submission the currently approved burden hours have decreased from 30,284 hours to 28,708 hours. FRA published two final rules revising Part 225 titled "Retiring Form FRA F 6180.107 and Form FRA F 6180.150" and "Miscellaneous Amendments to FRA's accident Reporting Regulations". Program change and agency adjustments resulted in an overall total annual decrease in burden hours for this information collection by 1,576 hours (-1,986 + 410 = -1,576).
