The purpose of the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) (29 CFR 1910.1200) and its collection of information requirements is to ensure that the hazards of chemicals produced or imported are evaluated and that information concerning these hazards is transmitted to employers and employees. The standard requires all employers to establish hazard communications programs, to transmit information on the hazards of chemicals to their employees by means of container labels, safety data sheets and training programs.
