Motor carriers are required to maintain a driver qualification file for each commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver to document that the driver meets the qualification standards to drive a CMV in interstate commerce. This revision is due to a Final Rule, titled "Safety Requirements for Operators of Small Passenger- Carrying Commercial Motor Vehicles Used in Interstate Commerce," which will result in an estimated 22,000 additional drivers who are subject to the requirements re: driver qualification files.
