OMB recognizes
that most if not all data on race and ethnicity for inmates in
local adult correctional facilities are observer-collected rather
than offender self-reported. BJS agrees to test adding a category
on questions that collect aggregate data on race in order to
capture individuals who identify with more than one race. A
category such as "More than one race" or "Two or more races" may be
considered; other alternatives may be pursued as well. BJS shall
report back to OMB by Dec 1, 2004 the results of testing along with
their recommendations for changing the forms comprising this
information collection request.
