This information collection is for the
electronic collection of data for CDC fellowships through the
Fellowship Management System (FMS). The target audience is
professionals in public health, epidemiology, medicine, and other
fields applying for fellowships at CDC. FMS will allow fellowships
applicants and alumni to update their information online, in a
single database. The current collection system is manual, relies on
the mail system, and requires duplicate data collection. Program
applicants prepare and mail application packages, and must prepare
duplicate packages if they apply for more than one fellowship.
Alumni provide the same information again, for each fellowship they
complete. The needs to track alumni in a secure, online directory
include: in a national public health emergency, the agency will
have accessible contact information of alumni with mission-critical
skills. CDC will have data to document the impact of the
fellowships on the career paths of participants, and on the science
and practice of public health. And, alumni will benefit with
networks for job finding, staffing, and collaborating. FMS provides
an efficient and integrated system and promotes the use of secure
data and system standards to improve data collection.
