The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and
Consumer Protection Act and other federal consumer financial laws
authorize the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to engage
in consumer protection rule writing. In order to inform the
development of a potential rulemaking concerning debt collection,
CFPB will conduct a web survey of 8,000 individuals as part of the
Bureau’s research on debt collection disclosures. The survey will
explore consumer comprehension and decision making in response to
debt collection disclosure forms.
